Personal
I was born in the Motor City Detroit, MI where I spent my childhood years before my family moved to Atlanta, GA. I attended college with an athletic scholarship, which birthed a healthy, competitive mindset. Upon entering the corporate world, I realized it was much more competitive than any sport I'd ever played. Dealing with stress in the workplace, life challenges and the struggle to balance it all began to take a toll on my mental and physical health. I internalized my external conflicts causing the onset of an autoimmune disorder. Alopecia became a relentless enemy. All I wanted to do was hide from that reality and I did just that. Society taught me that a woman's hair is her crown. Well that crown was fleeting. One day I realized I was sinking and becoming something and someone I didn't want to be. My vibrant personality turned inward. It felt like I couldn't see my value because I wasn't living my truth. In 2018, I took a trip to visit the Mayan pyramids of Chichén Itzá in Mexico and decided to leave all my head coverings behind. It was time to expose my vulnerabilities. It was like riding a bike for the first time, terrified, uncomfortable, and insecure. But, I was determined to keep riding. It took a few years and a few tears before the ride got easier. I began to walk boldly in my truth. My determination to not allow anything to hold my value hostage. created a new crown, one that glows in the darkest of times and glimmers in the light. I discovered my superpower.
Professional
My career in Human Resources launched over 20 years ago. I didn’t choose Human Resources it chose me. After receiving a degree in Criminal Justice, I immediately landed a job with a law firm. I was ecstatic that my prayers had been answered. The excitement quickly turned to dread. I struggled with the pronunciation of a certain word. It became such a “thing” that a colleague’s repeated sarcasm became too offensive to bear. I needed the job, wanted the experience but college didn’t teach me how to address this type of conflict. I elected to leave with the intention to educate myself on the roles of HR. I saw myself in those roles and quickly landed an entry level position. I’ve worked with several Fortune 500 companies such as Ford, PepsiCo and 3M, which are considered proving grounds. I have successfully developed and implemented recruitment strategies that attract top talent while fostering an inclusive workplace culture. My expertise in retention strategies has helped organizations not only hire the best but also keep them engaged and motivated. I’ve determined, companies that experience the highest rate of growth invest more in their employees on every level of the organization. I have played a pivotal role in corporate activities, facilitating smooth transitions and integration processes that align corporate cultures and enhance operational efficiency. Many focus on vertical movement. Seeking strategic lateral moves can better position you for upward mobility, even if it requires moving to a different city. I’ve been privileged to live in seven different states, built a wealth of relationships and strategic partnerships which have benefited my career growth. My collaborative approach bridges gaps ensuring cross functional teams work harmoniously toward shared objectives. I have designed and managed executive compensation packages that align with organizational performance and strategic goals, ensuring competitiveness while motivating top leadership. I am passionate about empowering teams and cultivating leadership capabilities within organizations.
My greatest work is engaging the workforce on ‘Authentic Leadership and Mindfulness” and creating psychological safety.
